Vinyl Picket Fence Adds Maintenance-Free Style

Life is busy enough without having to add on more tasks to your to-do list such as having to stain a wood fence that is rotting by the day.  Perhaps when you installed your wood fence, you didn't have any other option than wood or chain link.  At the time, you chose the material that best suited your needs.  Today, however, there are a variety of fence materials that provide a virtually maintenance-free experience while adding incredible lasting beauty.  At the top of the popularity chart for alternative materials is vinyl fence.  Vinyl, also referred to as PVC, is available in multiple styles ranging from full tongue and groove privacy to traditions; picket fence.  The vinyl picket fence competes with the full privacy fence for the most popular style among consumers. 

The vinyl picket fence is both functional and beautiful.  It conjures up images of the Norman Rockwell style American with the white picket fence and children at play in the yard. Fences serve both to keep people and animals in or out and, at the same time, add an element of design and style.  From a design standpoint, the fence can reflect a very simple, understated appearance or a very ornate elegance.  A vinyl picket fence can be concave, convex, or straight across.  It can have flat, Gothic, New England, or New Port style post caps to name a few.  Many homeowners are adding solar caps to their posts.  Solar lighting is merely an accent light and given its low output will not illuminate a back yard or sidewalk.  Solar lights can be very ornate, even reflecting the style of a Tiffany lamp. 

Fence contractors that fabricate vinyl fences may be willing to allow a measure of customization if you see a vinyl picket fence that you like better than what they offer as a standard option.  Expect to pay some sort of premium for custom fabrication, but having a totally unique fence would be well worth an extra ten percent.  If you have small pets, a fence contractor may be willing to reduce the picket spacing from the standard spacing of approximately 3.5 inches to 2 inches.  While this may not seem like a lot, the 1.5 inches reduction will certainly prohibit a small dog from escaping.
